Working at a nuclear station means always planning, thinking, working toward safety. That's the watchword here: Safety comes ahead of all other things.
I don't know about other industries. I worked at a newspaper for 15 years. About 10 years ago, I slashed my finger -- on the job -- down to the bone. My index finger on my left hand was split open. I held it closed with my right hand until the bleeding slowed, then wrapped it. I mentioned it to my boss the next day, waving my hand. He acted like he didn't want to know about it.
Now I know that's because it would have been an OSHA recordable accident. He ducked his responsibility to report the accident to keep his record unblemished.
That wouldn't happen at a nuclear station. You could bump your knee here, and people pay attention. Safety is paramount!
So that's why I forgot my tie. Tonight is the United Way Gala honoring my station for its employee efforts to raise money. I got my suit, shoes and shirt. But forgot the tie. I was thinking about a safety message to the site.
I know, I know. But it's true. So once I got to work, I had to cut out to Kohl's to get a new tie. 28 bucks. *sigh*

Blog created
Now's the time to get this blog off the ground. I'm here and typing. For those in the know, I've got a Peanut Butter wiki as well as a Facebook. I've been using the Net since 1996.
I'm currently employed at a nuclear generating station as the communications manager. Good job with good people, supplying clean energy to New Jersey and the surrounding region.
I live in New Jersey. More tk as I get the hang of it.
